Citric acid can be widely used in food, textile industry, medicine and personal care products. China is the largest producer of citric acid with nearly 70% of the annual production exported to other countries.

According to the data of UN Comtrade, the citric acid export from China is increasing steadily in the past five years. The fastest growth is seen in 2017, which had a 7.97% year-on-year increase.


 In 2018, China has exported 956,462 tons of citric acid, increased by 4.38% from 916,338 tons in 2017.

Though the export volume of citric acid is rising in China, the export value is showing a different path due to many factors. The export value also reached the peak point at 775,999,486 in 2017, but it is decreased by 8.95% in 2018 due to the lower average export price of the citric acid.

In 2018, India has imported 90,695.5 tons of citric acid from China, followed by Turkey and Mexico with the import amount of 56,424.2 and 55,211.9 MT respectively. Other major importers include Japan, Russia, Indonesia, Germany, Poland, Argentina, and South Korea.
